Questions, answered
Everything people ask us before they order — ordering, delivery, timber and what happens when something goes wrong. If yours isn't here, message us and we'll answer it properly.
Nothing matches that. Try a different word, or message us and we'll answer it directly.
Ordering & payment
Before you buy.
Is there a minimum order?
No. Order one post or a full fence run — it's the same price per item either way. Worth knowing that delivery is charged per order rather than per item, so a very small order carries the same delivery charge as a big one.
How can I pay?
All the usual debit and credit cards through Shopify's secure checkout, plus the express wallets your device offers at checkout. We never see or store your card details.
Do I need a trade account to get the best price?
No, and there isn't one. There's a single price on every product and it's the same whether you're a groundworker ordering every week or doing one fence on a Saturday. Ordering more still works out cheaper because delivery is per order.
Can you price a job up for me before I order?
Yes, and we'd rather you asked. Send us the length of the run, the height you want and a photo if you have one, and we'll come back with a full list of what to order and what it costs delivered. No obligation and no follow-up sales call.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Usually — message us as soon as you can with your order number. Once an order has been picked and loaded onto a vehicle it gets harder, so the sooner you tell us the better. If it's already out for delivery we'll sort it on the return instead.
Delivery
Zones, timings and what happens on the day.
How much is delivery?
It's free. For now we deliver across Birmingham & the Black Country only — put your postcode into the checker on our delivery page to see if we cover you.
Where do you deliver?
Birmingham & the Black Country for now — Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, West Bromwich, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Stourbridge. If you're just outside, message us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can do anything.
How long will it take to arrive?
We arrange your delivery day the same day you order wherever we can. You'll get a confirmation with your delivery day and window once it's booked in, so you're not waiting in on the off-chance.
Can I ask for a specific day?
Often yes — but ask us before you order rather than after. Message us with your postcode and the date you're after and we'll tell you whether we can make that day.
Do I need to be there?
We'd strongly recommend it. Timber and concrete are heavy and awkward, and having someone there means you can check the load over while the driver is still with you — which is much easier than sorting a problem afterwards. If you can't be in, tell us before delivery so we can agree what to do.
What if access to my property is tight?
Tell us before you order. Narrow lanes, low bridges, unmade tracks and no turning space all affect what vehicle we can send, and it's far better to know in advance than to have a lorry turn up that can't get to you.
Timber & materials
Treatments, grades and choosing the right thing.
What's the difference between treated and untreated timber?
Treated timber has preservative forced into it under pressure, which protects it against rot and insect attack. Untreated timber has had nothing done to it — it's fine indoors and under cover, but it will not last outside in contact with the ground.
Anything going in or near the ground should be treated. It's not an upsell, it's the difference between a fence lasting fifteen years and five.
What does UC4 mean?
Use Class 4 is the treatment level for timber in permanent contact with the ground or fresh water — fence posts, gravel boards, sleepers, decking joists. It's a heavier treatment than the UC3 used for things sitting above ground.
What's the difference between C16 and C24?
They're strength grades. C24 is the stronger of the two, so it can span further or carry more for the same section size, and it's usually the tidier-looking timber with fewer and smaller knots. C16 is perfectly good for most general framing and is cheaper.
If you're working to a structural drawing, use whatever grade it specifies. If you're not sure, ask us what you're building and we'll tell you which is sensible.
How should I store timber before I use it?
Flat, off the ground, and covered but not sealed. Bearers or pallets underneath keep it out of standing water, and a sheet over the top with the sides open lets air move through.
Left leaning against a wall or lying on wet ground it will bow and twist within days, and that's not something we can put right afterwards — so it's worth ten minutes when it arrives.
Why does my treated timber look wet or green?
That's normal. Freshly treated timber comes out of the tank damp and often has a green tinge from the preservative. It dries out and the colour weathers down over the following weeks — it doesn't affect how the treatment performs.
Can I cut treated timber to size?
Yes, but every cut you make exposes untreated wood in the middle. Brush an end-grain preservative onto any cut face, especially on anything going into the ground — a sawn post end sat in soil is the single most common place a fence starts to rot.
Will the colour fade?
Yes. All outdoor timber greys off over a year or two in the weather — that's UV, not a fault, and it doesn't mean the treatment has failed. If you want it to stay a particular colour, you'll need to stain or paint it and top that up every few years.
Problems & returns
When something isn't right.
My order arrived damaged or something's missing
Message us with your order number and a photo as soon as you spot it and we'll get a replacement out. We'd much rather sort it than argue about it.
Checking the load over while the driver is still there makes this far quicker for everyone, so have a look through before you sign anything off.
What's your returns policy?
If you've ordered online and changed your mind, you have the cancellation rights the law gives you as a consumer — get in touch and we'll talk you through it. Items need to be unused and in a resaleable condition, and return carriage on heavy goods is generally down to you.
Anything cut, machined or made to your measurements can't be returned as a change of mind, because we can't sell it on to anyone else. None of this affects your rights if something turns up faulty or not as described.
Do you really price match?
We do. Send us a link to the same product cheaper somewhere else and we'll match it. It needs to be genuinely like for like — same spec, same treatment, in stock, and delivered to your area.
Can I collect instead of paying for delivery?
Not at the moment — we're set up as an online shop delivering on our own vehicles rather than a trade counter. If collection would make the difference for you, message us and we'll see what we can do.
How do I get hold of a person?
Use the form on our contact page, or email or WhatsApp us — all the details are there. It lands with someone who actually handles the stock, not a queue, and you'll get an answer within one working day.
Still stuck?
Send us the details and a real person will come back to you within one working day.
