Polythene sheet laid under a concrete slab or floor to stop ground moisture rising up through it — the layer that keeps a solid floor dry rather than slowly damp from underneath. Available in 1000 gauge (250 micron) and 1200 gauge (300 micron), both BBA approved; 1000 gauge meets UK Building Regulations' minimum standard, 1200 gauge is the thicker, more robust option for a tougher site or extra peace of mind. Lap joints by at least 150mm and tape them, since a damp proof membrane only works where it isn't torn or gapped.
